The Lamont Clan is a clan that originated from Ireland (the name originally meaning ‘Law Givers’) who crossed over to Scotland, and continued on their highland clan within the boundaries of Scotland.

There are references to the Lamonts stemming back to 1116 AD, describing their influential prowess and the land in which their clan covered.

Area Of Kindom of Dal Riata The Lamont Clan is perhaps well known for founding the kingdom of Dal Riata, a Gaelic Scottish kingdom on the western seaboard.

It was situated in what is known Argyll and Bute, and has recently been questioned for its possibility of being an Irish Gaelic community in disguise.

This of course, would go some way to explaining the history behind the Lamont Clan before their arrival in Scotland.

In the 14th and 15th century, the Lamont Clan grew stronger and more influential among the surrounding communities, by becoming allies with different clans, mostly through the marriage of Lamont daughters.

McDonald Clan Tartan The Macdonald Clan soon became allied with the Lamonts, marrying into the clan. The Macdonald Clan in the 14th and 15th centuries was a noble clan that many admired.

The Lamont Clan grew stronger by partially obtaining a Macdonald name, as well as helping to rule parts of the west coast.
